Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has given Occupy Melbourne protesters notice to pack up and leave City Square.

As the protest enters its sixth day, Cr Doyle said the protesters had made their statement and would be required to leave the square in a matter of days.

"They have made their statement," he said on ABC Radio yesterday.

"When it does come time for them to pack up and move on I would hope they do so in a respectful manner."

But Greens MP Adam Bandt said he thought the protest was great.

"I came down to have a look and I think it's great. Julie Gillard and Tony Abbott should come down and have a look,'' he said.
