Herman van Rompuy reads Haiku after Washington nuclear summit

European Council President Herman van Rompuy on Thursday presented his first published anthology of Haiky poems. At an event at the Belgian parliament in Brussels, Van Rompuy, a former Belgian prime minister, also read out his latest Haiku, written in a combination of Flemish and French, just two days after he returned from the nuclear summit in Washington. At the summit, Van Rompuy met US President Obama for the first time.

A Haiku is a free verse poem of three lines respectively in five, seven and five syllables in which an intense experience of nature is expressed.
