18th-Century Wooden Ship Unearthed At World Trade Center Site - WPIX

Excavation teams at the World Trade Center site unearthed the hull of an 18th-century ship, and hope to have it removed in the next few days.

Workers first found the wooden remnants buried in muck on Tuesday morning, and by Wednesday the outline of the ship became apparent at the site of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Along with other debris, historians say the ship weighed down and sunk to the bottom of the riverbed around 1810 to extend the lower Manhattan shoreline from old Lindsey's Wharf and Lake's Wharf further into the Hudson River.
