President Obama called the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico “heartbreaking” and said it makes the passage of climate change legislation all the more urgent this year.

 

“The spill in the Gulf, which is just heartbreaking, only underscores the necessity of seeking alternative fuel sources,” Obama said after declaring climate change a “threat to our way of life” and calling on Congress to pass climate change bill “this year.”

 

Obama expressed tempered hope that the attempt to plug the oil leak, an effort known as top kill, will work. The Coast Guard gave BP approval to go ahead with the operation as early as Wednesday.

 

“If it’s successful, and there are no guarantees, it should greatly reduce or eliminate the flow of oil now streaming into the Gulf from the sea floor,” he said. “If it’s not there are other approaches that may be viable.”

At first, Michael Mann, a Penn State professor and a central figure in the Climategate scandal, but best known for his discredited "hockey stick graph" didn't like being mocked in a YouTube video. Now Mann is alleging he's a victim of hate groups.

On ABC's May 23 "World News Sunday," a segment from anchor Dan Harris alleged that threatening e-mails Mann received were part of a "spike" in violence aimed at the global warming alarmist community.

"The ongoing oil spill crisis in the Gulf is keeping the debate over climate and energy very much in the headlines and that debate is becoming increasingly venomous with many prominent scientists now saying that they are being severely harassed," Harris said.

BBC News – First  human ‘infected with computer virus’

A British scientist says he is the first man in the world to become infected with a computer virus.

Dr Mark Gasson from the University of Reading had a chip inserted in his hand which was then infected with a virus.

The device, which enables him to pass through security doors and activate his mobile phone, is a sophisticated version of ID chips used to tag pets.

In trials, Dr Gasson showed that the chip was able to pass on the computer virus to external control systems.

If other implanted chips had then connected to the system they too would have been corrupted, he said.

Brittany Murphy’s husband is found dead at home

The husband of Brittany Murphy was found dead by his mother-in-law late Sunday at the Los Angeles home he shared with the late actress, the coroner's office said. Simon Monjack's death was reported as a possible heart attack and appeared to be from natural causes, Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said. Monjack was 39.

"He was discovered by Brittany's mom as being unresponsive" in the master bedroom of the Hollywood Hills home at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Winter said. Sharon Murphy called paramedics, who pronounced him dead.

There were no signs of foul play or physical injury to his body, Winter said.

When trying to question the famous violist, WME artist, member of Dave Stewart’s Rock Fabulous Orchestra and Factory Girl Ann Marie Calhoun about two highly controversial videos she posted on YouTube earlier this week, I found out that for a few days already Ann Marie is missing.

Ann Marie, who is also the spokeswoman of Conspiracy For Good, uploaded a confidential lobbyist video by the UK security company Blackwell Briggs onto YouTube after the video got leaked earlier this week.
