THOMASVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A 38-year-old California man has died in a plane crash near the York Airport in Thomasville.

Brian Robertson, of Huntington Beach, was the only person on board the plane when it went down about a mile south of the airport, in a farm field near Martin Road in Jackson Township, at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to a witness, the twin-engine plane - a corporate-type Cessna Conquest - was approaching the airport and lost power to an engine before it spiraled to the ground.

abc27 News has learned Robertson contacted the airport to advise of his approach when he was about 20 miles away.

He later made a second call to the airport to report that the plane had lost one of its engines.

Thanks also to Shari Bryan and Ken Wollack for inviting me here today. And I want to begin by wishing an Eid Mubarak to Muslims here tonight and around the world.

Newt weeps at Iowa stop

At a forum with a mom's group in Des Moines, Newt Gingrich began weeping in recalling a special moment he shared with his mother earlier in life.
A drastic departure from his usual image as a stoic, policy-drive candidate, Gingrich cried more than once in recalling how even today he still cries when he sings Christmas carols. GOP pollster Frank Luntz asked the tear-evoking question.
"I get teary-eyed everytime we sing Christmas carols," he said, starting to choke up. "My mother sang in the choir and loved singing in the choir. And I don't know if I should admit this, but when I was very young she made me sing in the choir and we had pictures of me at a very young age singing in the choir."
